I had a lot of fun creating the yarns although I once again felt like I wasn’t really deviating too far from the yarns I created in Assignment 4. Not too sure what level of exploration is required at this stage of the course really. I see what other students have submitted and some of it is of an extremely high standard as well as clearly having been very time consuming to make, and I just don’t have that kind of time to put into my creations. But I don’t want to compare myself to other students especially as I am sure there are plenty whose standards aren’t so exceptional. I do feel my yarns are full of life and texture in a way the paper explorations aren’t so much as I felt it much much harder to create exciting 3D ideas on what feels like a difficult medium for this, as paper rips easily and resists all the things I have enjoyed doing with the yarns such as knotting and looping and being stitched into.

Produce a workbook/ sketchbook

I have just completed an online sketchbook course with textile artist Dionne Swift. This has finally inspired me and liberated me to do a sketchbook my way. I have loved the fast and instinctive working and cutting up of pages, creating cut throughs to other pages, creating new pages from magazine pages etc. Consequently my workbook feels like a place for all my work and inspiration and it feels like it reflects the inside of my head in a way that my other workbooks haven’t at all.
